Overview Open to U.S. Citizens/Nationals. This Direct Hire Public Notice is to gather applications that may or may not result in a referral or selection. This position is for the Criminal Investigation (CI) Division and involves Direct Hire Authority (DHA). Duties The Criminal Investigator plans and conducts investigations relative to criminal statutes of tax administration and financial crimes, which may require access to Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI), other intelligence-related information, or involvement in Top Secret Special Access Programs (SAP). The work includes analyzing complex and unusual accounting problems, interrelationships of facts and evidence across multiple entities, and may involve international transfers of funds, collaboration with DOJ and IRS foreign country attaches, and cryptocurrency investigations. Performs other investigative and enforcement duties such as testifying as a government witness, assisting the U.S. Attorney during case preparation, and conducting collateral inquiries. Obtains, evaluates, and integrates information to identify large areas of noncompliance (e.g., major professions, occupations, industries, or wide geographic areas). This position has career progression. If hired at a lower grade, you may be non-competitively promoted as you progress (e.g., GS-05 to GS-11 in as little as three years). Requirements Conditions of employment Must be a U.S. Citizen or National and provide proof of citizenship. Qualifications Basic and higher-division eligibility is described for GL-07 and GL-09 levels, including specialized experience in criminal investigations or related accounting/auditing work. Education may substitute for experience as detailed in the announcement, including graduate-level coursework in accounting, economics, finance, tax law, or related fields, and Special Academic Achievement provisions. Special requirements include maximum entry age, medical and physical fitness standards, vision and hearing requirements, emotional stability, and security considerations. All medical requirements must be met at the time of initial examination/test. Special notes: You must meet all Qualification Standards, including Medical Requirements, for Criminal Investigator (Special Agent) 1811 positions.
