POSITION SUMMARY

Under the supervision of the Site Coordinator, the Spanish Tutor is responsible for leading focused academic tutoring sessions and enrichment activities for youth in YMCA After School Programs. With the goal of fostering language proficiency and cultural appreciation, the Spanish Tutor will develop and implement lesson plans tailored to support and supplement school-wide efforts in Spanish language education.

The Spanish Tutor is responsible for creating and leading Spanish-focused sessions weekly for elementary school-aged youth (K-5th), as directed by the Site Coordinator and program team. Sessions must be engaging, align with YMCA curriculum guidelines, and incorporate Youth Development Principles to support students' language development and personal growth.

Salary Range: $20.00 to $40.00 per hour

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• 18 years or older
• Meets school district Instructional Aide requirements of:
  • High school diploma or equivalent AND passed District Instructional Aide Exam; OR
  • High school diploma or equivalent AND passed California Basic Education Skills Test (CBEST); OR
  • High school diploma or equivalent AND 48 college units (transcript verification required); OR
  • Associate's degree or higher
• Proficiency in Spanish, including reading, writing, and conversational skills
• Must be available: Part time, Monday-Friday, between 1:00-6:00 pm for scheduled enrichments
• Knowledge, creativity, and interest in a variety of subjects that center in the goal of having youth developing vital skills that can used, such as arts, music, culture, sports, health and fitness, etc.
• Able to supervise and guide youth
• YMCA approved CPR and First Aid certified (may complete upon hire)
• Fingerprint background check clearance
• TB Test clearance

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Experience tutoring or teaching Spanish to elementary-aged children preferred
• Bilingual skills in Spanish, Cantonese, Mandarin, or other languages strongly preferred
• Connections in the local San Francisco, Peninsula, or Marin community
