Job Description

JOB TITLE : Tax Accountant LOCATION : Houston, TX POSITION REPORTS TO : Director of Tax COMPENSATION : Commensurate with experience and skills SCHEDULE : Monday through Friday. 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Overtime and weekends may be required

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Prepare Motor Fuel Excise and/or Sales and Use tax compliance filings
• Reconciliation of tax related general ledger accounts
• Work with customers to obtain exemptions
• Maintain customer licenses and exemptions in tax software
• Assist customers with appropriate tax forms and applications
• Correspond with vendors to provide tax licenses and exemptions
• Work with other departments to resolve tax related issues
• Maintain license renewals for excise tax and sales tax
• Other tasks and projects as assigned by manager

BASIC REQUIREMENTS

• Must be local (live within 60 miles)
• Minimum 5 years of experience filing sales tax or excise tax returns
• Must be proficient with Microsoft Excel (Pivot Tables and VLOOKUP)
• Experience managing business paperwork and accounting for a large company

• Professional experience working with confidential and sensitive information
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Strong time and work management skills
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work well with others in a fast-paced team environment
• Self-motivation
• Excellent typing skills
• Professional telephone etiquette

PREFERRED

• Motor Fuel Excise Tax experience
• Bachelor's degree
• SAP Experience
• Avalara and/or Vertex Experience
